Saturday Open Thread

The state Democratic Party criticized McCain for his support for the war, calling him “worse than Bush” in a statement.

After the speech, McCain was asked by an audience member if he was “sucking up to the religious right.” He drew laughs by responding: “What’s wrong with sucking up to everybody?”

Ahhh…an breath of fresh air..a politician telling it as he “really” sees it!

Lately I’ve amused myself by turning off the sound on these airheads, and just watching thier lips flap. Somebody really ought to make a video of flapping political lips set to the right music. I can see it. It’d be hilarious, complete with inserted sound effects instead of words.

My day is for holing up, waiting for the storm, reading, writing, drawing, playing with cats, napping, and trying to locate my missing desktop, which I haven’t seen for over a week now.

How ’bout yours?

  1. I actually have to go out in our snow today scribe - yuk. But its to spend the day in conversation with David Whyte (and about 80 other people) so I think it will be worth it to venture out.

But I must admit, that your plans for today look pretty good to me!

Anyone know how Diane is doing? I was hoping she was doing better and we’d be hearing more from her.

  2. I have a new leasing agent starting today so I have to spend the day training yet another person. They only work Saturdays so they tend to come and go alot. So many other things I would rather be doing but it’s all part of the territory.

Haven’t heard anymore from Diane. Sounded like she was getting better. I just may have to give her a call today.

Everyone have a great weekend. Snow and all.

  3. Calling Diane, calling Diane! Can we get a little progress report?

Nanc, I’d walk through a bizzard barefoot to hear that poet! Take notes on everything and share share share, please!!

Leezy, hope you get a bright one to train, and get done early so you get some time for you today too.

About the snow..as soon as it gets deep enough, I intend to go out and make snow angels again, like I did last year. (Some of the folks here get a little nervous about seeing an old woman laying flat on her back in the snowbank, so I have to have someone with me to keep them from calling 911!)

  7. Did you do this video, Cruz? It’s incredible! What a gorgeous country you come from. How I wish I could see it in person, but this made it possible for me to get this wonderful view I’d not have seen otherwise. Wonderful! And thank you!

  10. I am spending my day with a small project. I HAVE A PROJECT!

  11. I am spending my day with a small project. I HAVE A PROJECT! I don’t know if that conveys me doing the Snoopy dance all through the house or not, but I’m really happy about it. In my former life as an ordinary working person I used to have lots of projects. They seemed to be what drove my life. These past 6 years I haven’t been into projects. Just sort of let go of that for a while.

Now this is no big thing as projects go, but it is a really big thing in my energy space. I have a little cupboard I am putting up in the kitchen. I have been looking for this particular cupboard for quite some time. It had to be just the right size, just the right appearance and will the attributes I most wanted. And above all else, it needed to be affordable to me. I was willing to go as high as $50, but much beyond that was just not a fit for my budget. So I found this little gem the other day when I was on one of my rare “out of the house” shopping trips. It had all the elements I was looking for and it was only $20. I did a snoopy dance right there in the store! Yep, I did.

So today it goes up on the wall in its designated space and then I get to put those items in it that have been homeless for quite sometime. So BIG TIMES in the shirlstars household today! Go ahead and laugh, but someday you all will understand how such small things can bring such utter joy!!

Then, I am going to read another book. I’ve read two this week already and number three awaits me. And that’s another big deal, but I’ll spare you the analysis of that.

Hope you all are enjoying your Saturday, and I wish I could have a picture of Scribe making snow angels. . .although the one I see in my mind is pretty damn good!

    Hugs everyone,
    Shirl

  12. By the way, if you go to the last link, you will see that there is a link 100 images. There are cool photos there, 100 of Che Guevara, from the war of Iraq, Evita, etc.

  13. Excellent material, cruz! I’ve always wanted to see Argentina; I always imagined a sort of kinship as a Canadian, even though I’ve never been there. The video was the perfect distraction from my work on this Saturday afternoon. Glad to hear everyone else is sounding good / on the mend! Now back to my projects :^/

  14. I have a project too. Working with another Canadian blogger to create a push to deal with this sad story about a 9 yr old Canadian boy who is detained with his Iranian family in a Texas detention facility.

We’re not ready for a media blitz yet (that has to be coordinated with the family and the lawyers/NGOs involved) so we’re putting together an action alert to start placing pressure on the US and Canadian governments first. I’ll let you know once it’s posted later today.

I’m a bit stressed. This is all happening behind the scenes very quickly. It’s good, however, to be directly involved in a pressing human rights issue. The process will be long but it’s time to put some of that “people power” into action once again. (I’ve already had it up to here with the ‘08 election race. It just all seems so irrelevant at this point).

  15. Anything we can do to help Catnip? Was it here from you I read of this story? I think so. I’m serious. Letters? Let us know…(((hugs)))
